Alcohol Suspected Factor in North Carolina Boating Accident
Officials are still investigating a boating accident in North Carolina that left passengers with multiple injuries, according to officials. The accident occurred in the early morning hours of October 5, in the Intracoastal Waterway off the coast of Wrightsville Beach. A 20-foot boat collided with an 18-foot boat, and a witness called 911.
Emergency crews responded to find one of the boats floating overturned and its five passengers ejected. According to coast guard officials, visible injuries to passengers included a broken nose and various lacerations and bruises. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the recreational boating accident. The larger capsized boat is totaled, according to Sea Tow officials.
“We’re still in the middle of the investigation,” says Wildlife Resources Officer Fred Gorchess.
