What Happens if a Drunk Boater Injures Me?

What people do today will eventually show up in their future, and, unfortunately, people do not always think things through. As a result, their tomorrows often hold pain and suffering for them and others. Whether it is something as innocent as an ill-advised spur of the moment purchase or as serious as getting behind the wheel of a boat drunk, actions have consequences, both for the person that made the mistake and those hurt because of it.

For recreational boaters, if you or a loved one is hurt due to the actions of a drunk boater, the consequences can often be devastating for you and your family. As nationwide maritime trial lawyer Carolyn Latti explains in the video above, one of those consequences can be the boater responsible being uninsured, leaving you on the hook for the medical expenses that resulted from the accident.

If that is the case, let us help you pursue legal remedies to hold the boater at fault accountable for your medical expenses and more. You did not cause this accident, and you and your family should not have to pay the consequences for it.

Gulf Shores Drunk Boating Accident Sends Woman to Hospital

According to AL.com, a March 10 boating accident left a woman hospitalized and another individual in jail facing charges of boating under the influence (BUI).

The accident happened about 7:30 p.m. as the boat, carrying five college students on spring break from a school in Mississippi, was traveling west on the Intracoastal Waterway near Gulf Shores.

“The driver swerved to miss a barge and hit the shoreline,” an Alabama Marine Police Sgt. stated. “(They) went between the barge and the shoreline and the barge was tied to the shoreline. When they did that they actually hit the shoreline and the barge.”

Only one person was injured in the wreck. She sustained a head injury and was taken to the hospital by helicopter, according to the Alabama Marine Police. The driver of the boat was arrested for BUI.
