Second Man Charged for ‘Naut Guilty’ Boating Accident
Updating a story that we have been following recently, a second man has been arrested in connection to a Boston Harbor boating accident in which a teenager lost part of her arm after she was struck by the vessel’s propeller.
According to the Boston Globe, Alexander Williams, 24, allegedly started the Naut Guilty’s engine while it was anchored near Spectacle Island and “negligently moved the boat in the direction of the victim.”
He has been charged with negligent operation of a boat and destroying evidence. The boat’s owner, Benjamin Urbelis, 33, a DWI attorney, has also been charged with reckless operation of the boat, as well as causing serious bodily injury while operating a boat under the influence of alcohol. Urbelis’ lawyers have maintained that he was swimming when the incident occurred. The victim’s arm was severed above her elbow.
Williams is a student at New England Law School. When authorities responded to his Boston apartment with a search warrant recently, they reportedly found his phone in a “restore factory settings mode”, erasing the device’s contents. As the police were discovering that this was taking place, Williams’ lawyer was allegedly telling him that the deletion was the “stupidest thing” he could do.
Williams has also been charged with providing alcohol for several teenage women who were aboard the boat.
