Royal Canadian Air Force and the United States Coast Guard Rescue Efforts for the F/V ATLANTIC DESTINY

Many thanks to the coordinated rescue efforts of the Royal Canadian Air Force and the United States Coast Guard for saving lives of commercial fishermen.

On March 3, 2021, a rescue center in Nova Scotia was notified that the 143 foot the F/V ATLANTIC DESTINY was disabled due to a fire on board and the ship was taking on water. A Royal Canadian Air Force rescued six fisherman and helicopter crews from Massachusetts rescued another 21 fishermen to safety in 26-foot seas and winds that were above 35 mph winds. The fishing vessel eventually sank to the bottom of the ocean.

First District Coast Guard attributes the successful rescue to the joint yearly training with the Canadian partners that enable coordinated response and successful rescue of the fisherman.
