Girl Dies in Tubing Accident on Long Island Sound

The waterfront in Greenwich CT is always popular with teenagers for boating and water sports during the heat of the summer. Teens are allowed to operate a boat without parental supervision so long as they have a state-issued safe boating certificate.

Every now and then, though, something goes catastrophically wrong, reminding all of us of the importance of safety measures and caution on the water.

Family dealing with wrongful deathTragically, a 16-year-old girl was killed and another was critically hurt in a boating accident on Long Island Sound.

The teens were riding in an inner tube, pulled by friends in a boat, when the towlines somehow got tangled up in the propeller.

Reports say that the girls fell out of the inner tube before the accident, but that, sadly, the propeller struck them when the boat circled back to pick them up.

The injured girl was hospitalized with a leg injury and is in stable condition.

The father of one girl in the boat said his daughter was in shock after the accident.

“Sabrina had to pull her friend’s dead body out of the water,” he said. “This would’ve been tough for a combat soldier… These are teenaged girls.”
